Who needs a Maryland state inspection

How long does the inspection take?
Most inspections are finished the same day, and usually much faster. Call ahead and we will give you an honest wait time before you drive over.
When is a Maryland state inspection required?
Maryland requires a safety inspection when a used vehicle is titled or registered, including cars bought from a private seller and vehicles brought in from another state. Transfers between spouses or from parent to child are generally exempt. It is a one-time inspection, not an annual one.
What happens if my car fails?
You have 30 days and 1,000 miles to fix the failed items and get reinspected, otherwise you pay for a full new inspection. We repair failed items in-house and reinspect on the spot, so one trip usually does it.
Is this the same as the VEIP emissions test?
No. The safety inspection is a one-time check required for titling. VEIP is Maryland's separate emissions test that most vehicles take every two years at a VEIP station. If you fail VEIP, we diagnose and repair the cause.
How long is the certificate valid?
90 days from the inspection date. Plan to title the vehicle within that window.
